The competition for the Palazzo di Giustizia in Rome takes place in four phases that develop between 1884 and 1887. The project of the third competition (1886-1887), drawn up by Ernesto Basile (Palermo 1857-1932), reveals a great maturity design that transforms the complex functional program into a rigorous neo-Renaissance style building. The jury recognizes the quality of the project and selects it for the final phase by invitation (1887) together with that one of Guglielmo Calderini, who will be the winner. The digital reconstruction of architectural projects starting from archive sources is a well established disciplinary application useful for the study and analysis of architecture and its relations with the historical context as well as for the representation of volumes and spaces not visible in the original documents. Given the importance recognized to these operations which inevitably involve processes of hermeneusi we propose methodological guidelines for the drafting a protocol limiting arbitrariness as much as possible. Very often, the production of a model and the consequent representation of tridimensional views, in many case studies, as outcome of the research on architecture have been considered. Il contributo indaga il progetto di Ernesto Basile, mai realizzato, per Palazzo Lanza dei principi di Deliella a Palermo, attraverso lo studio dei disegni originali (1895-1897). Questi consistono in 15 documenti grafici che raccolgono 5 piante, 6 prospetti e 4 viste prospettiche, che rappresentano quattro versioni di progetto con diverse soluzioni, di ognuna delle quali è possibile reperire una documentazione frammentaria e incompleta, riconducibile a tempi ideativi differenti. Il testo affronta lo studio di un’opera giovanile di Giuseppe Damiani Almeyda (1834-1911), figura di spicco del panorama architettonico in Sicilia tra la seconda metà dell’Ottocento ed i primi del Novecento. Il progetto del Gran Caffè, vincitore di prestigiosi riconoscimenti, anche se realizzato quando Damiani non era ancora trentenne, risulta molto maturo e segna una tappa importante nella formazione dell’architetto. Se ne ritroveranno richiami progettuali nel Politeama, edificio a cui il suo nome è legato, e in una grandiosa opera didattica, la Scuola Italiana di Architettura Civile, che, purtroppo, non è mai stata pubblicata.
